    Robert Burns Cycles Jordan

Carole and I (no spring chickens) are doing a charity bike ride in Jordan in October. We will be cycling 250 miles in 5 days to raise funds for a charity called Women for Women. The charity trains women scientists and carries out research into conditions that affect women and their babies. The aim is for every women to be able to have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. The president of the charity is Lord Robert Winston.

Carole and I have to raise £5000 between us to participate in the bike ride as well as get ourselves fit enough to cycle the distance. Our Burns Supper was part of our fund raising efforts. Neither of us had ever been to a Burns Supper before but we are blest with lots of Scots friends who were unstinting in their help and advice and we ended up having the best night ever - although it was a lot of hard work as we did the catering ourselves.  The evening made £950 which has given our fund raising a great boost. We managed to find a fantastic piper, Paul Bowness, and a great musician, Alan Whitbread, who helped to make the evening a success. We were lucky enough to be given one of the 250 limited edition bottles of Famous Grouse and this was won by the parents of the baby who was christened in our village that day. How appropriate given the nature of our charity and Robbie Burns own extensive family!.

Thank you to every one who helped. If you want to find out more visit www.justgiving.com/annlattimore
