Yokohama & Tokyo St Andrew Society 250th Anniversary Burns Supper
A splendid evening of fun and entertainment was had by all to mark the 250th Anniversary of the man himself, Robert Burns. This year held at the ANA Intercontinental Hotel in Tokyo on Saturday 21st February 2009.
Phil Gibb, Chieftain of the Yokohama & Tokyo St Andrew Society and MC led the evening. Followed by three fine speeches from Fergus Stewart giving the Immortal Memory; David Fitton - Minister of the British Embassy giving the Toast to the Lassies and Lori Henderson who in her Toast to the Laddies displayed her own poetic skills in what arguably was the best Toast of the evening.
Music & Dancing entertainment supplied by the Tokyo Bluebells, Tokyo Pipe Band and of course the Coila Celidh Band. We were also entertained by solo performances by Frank Hunter on the Pipes and Andrew McGarva on the fiddle.
Congratulations to Morgan Laughlin and Andrew Dunlop for helping us raise JPY170,000 for our nominated charities Second Harvest a Tokyo based charity for the homeless and the Scottish Community Foundation who help children back home.
The dance floor was packed as soon as the formalities were over and dancing went on till well past 1 am when Flower of Scotland was followed by Auld Lang Syne.
A fitting evening and tribute to the Bard.
